It was quite an experience to see how they extract the marble from the quarry. The marble veins are running through the rock and you see the different layers of colors and minerals. The beginning of Cosentino started here in 1940. In 1979 the second generation of the Martinez-Cosentino family founded Mármoles Cosentino S.A. Since then the company has expanded worldwide, and is not only known for their natural stone slabs. They developed Silestone in 1990 and their newest addition to the family is Dekton, which is an ultra compact composite, that is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The slabs comes down to 4 mm thickness, so it’s perfect for wall cladding.
As the factory and warehouse are situated close to the quarry, we got a tour of most of the site. The trucks drive directly from the quarry to the factory to unload. Around 80 trucks leave the warehouse every day. The scale of the factory is overwhelming. The technology and research that goes in to the Cosentino products is impressive. Everything runs automatically, and machines are constantly working throughout the factory
